40 Questions for Kids to Ask Their Grandparents

September 5, 2019 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

A few years ago I wrote a post about the importance of grandparents. I noted in that post that grandparents have a wealth of knowledge that they can pass along to their grandkids and that they help connect grandkids to their history.

Given kids can learn so many things from their grandparents, perhaps it is best not to take a laissez-faire approach to learning from them. Yes, kids do learn some things during everyday activities, but if they’re not intentional about asking questions, they may miss out on a lot of important information.

In honor of Grandparents Day (which is always the first Sunday after Labor Day), I’m sharing 40 questions that grandkids can ask their grandparents. These questions will help kids learn all sorts of things, including interesting facts about their grandparents, tidbits about their family histories, life lessons, and even practical skills.

(Click on the image to view and download a printable version of the questions.)

These questions will help kids learn biographical information, family history details, life lessons, and practical skills from their grandparents. My kids are quite young (ages 4, 3, and 1), so they can’t ask these questions independently. However, I’m helping them to ask the questions so they can start to amass some of the wonderful knowledge that they can gain from their grandparents.

What additional questions would you add? How do you help your kids learn from their grandparents?

I love this! I am thinking of ways my own kids can use this idea, but also how I can incorporate this for my own grandchildren. Hmm, you have this grandma thinking. Thank you for the ideas, and thank you for sharing this week at Encouraging Hearts & Home blog hop!

That’s great, Linda. Grandparents can initiate some question-and-answer time, too.

My grandchildren are 9, 7 1/2, 6 and 22 months. The older ones do ask me questions but are not so proficient to write down the answers. So, I took a list like this and wrote a 17 page letter to them – always adding to the letter, though. I also included family favorite recipes as well as the foods/recipes my daughter loved as a child.

This sounds amazing, Lea! What a wonderful gift to them. I love that you’ve included recipes! I’ve heard so many people say, “My grandmother used to make such-and-such. She’s not around anymore and I sure wish I knew how to make it.” Your grandkids will know how to make it!
