A Wake-Up Call to Memorize Scripture

Have you found a way to integrate consistent Scripture memorization into your life? I wish I could say that I have, but in all honesty I’m more motivated and more disciplined in some seasons than in others. This may be changing; however, because I recently came up with a simple idea that has sped up my memorization.

A Wake-Up Call to Memorize Scripture | Need help memorizing Scripture on a consistent basis? Consider using the memo feature built into your smartphone’s alarm.

I use the alarm feature on my cell phone to wake me each morning. Like most smartphones, my phone allows its user to enter a memo to be displayed when the alarm sounds. Given that I have to look at the screen every morning to silence the alarm, why not take advantage of this feature by entering into the memo field a Bible verse I’m trying to memorize?

Place verse in the memo input box | Need help memorizing Scripture on a consistent basis? Consider using the memo feature built into your smartphone’s alarm.

I enter the reference and the first portion of the verse (or passage) I’m memorizing. I then read over it once or twice each morning as I turn off the alarm. Once I’ve memorized this, I change the memo to a subsequent portion of the verse. I continue this until I’ve committed the entire verse or passage to memory. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

What if you don’t use your phone as an alarm or you don’t have a smartphone? You can still use a variation of this idea. Simply write the verse on a notecard and prop it up next to your alarm clock. For additional ideas on how to memorize Bible verses, check out the Memorizing Scripture board on OF THE HEARTH’s Pinterest page.

Cool. It’s a high tech option to putting a notecard with the verse on it on the mirror so you’ll see it each morning.

Yes, it is. However, a notecard on the mirror is a good strategy, too!

What a great idea!! I don’t think my phone does that because it is an antiquated smart phone. I still think your idea is so cool!!
