Flag Code Primer for U.S. Households

My daughter and I go for a walk through our neighborhood almost every day. There are many things I love about our neighborhood, including the way many of our neighbors show their pride in our country and their support of our troops by flying the U.S. flag. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that many of my neighbors fly their flags in manners that … [Read more...] about Flag Code Primer for U.S. Households

Toddlers are naturally curious. How can we take advantage of this when it is often messy and sometimes scary to help them learn new skills?

Many parents find themselves in one of two extreme camps. They either expect their children to grow up more quickly than is realistic or they do things that inhibit their children from growing up at the proper pace. Parents in the former group may expect their newborns to be able to sleep through the entire night without waking to feed while … [Read more...] about Equipping Toddlers with New Skills

Summer 2016 Menu

June 8, 2016 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

What’s for dinner in my house during summer 2016? Menu items range from a zesty Mexican Rice Bake to a flavorful Honey Sesame Chicken.

As I did this spring, I’ve focused on easy-to-prepare meals while planning my family’s menu for this summer. We’ll probably stick with this menu until I give birth in July and then rely on freezer meals for a time. There are a lot of great meals here, so hopefully we’ll be ready to return to it by August! I’ve described my menu planning … [Read more...] about Summer 2016 Menu

How can you get one-on-one time with your spouse when you don’t have a babysitter to watch your kids? Here are some helpful strategies.

One-on-one time with your spouse is beneficial in any marriage relationship, but it takes on new importance and is particularly elusive for parents of young children. At first glance, it seems like finding alone time is simple: Just leave the kids with a sitter for a few hours! However, for many couples, this is easier said than … [Read more...] about Getting Time with Your Spouse When You Have No Babysitter for the Kids

6 Things Children Can Learn From Gardening

June 1, 2016 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

Gardening isn’t just a fun activity for our children. It’s educational, teaching them many important lessons and benefitting them in a number of ways.

We finally have a yard large enough to accommodate several raised garden beds. With the clumsy help of my toddler, I recently moved my plants from their starter pots into two large beds. I’m thrilled to be introducing my daughter to gardening because there are so many lessons—truly crucial lessons—that our children can learn from … [Read more...] about 6 Things Children Can Learn From Gardening

The Best Freezer Meals

May 30, 2016 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

Frozen meals are wonderful because they can be pulled from the freezer and used whenever they are needed. What are some of the best meals to freeze?

Today we are going to answer another question from a reader. It’s timely for me that we examine her question because I’m trying to prepare freezer meals to use after I give birth later this summer. Sharon asked the following: “Hi, I have some friends that are having some health issues and would like to do some cooking for them. I am … [Read more...] about The Best Freezer Meals

Tips for Preparing Great Burgers

May 27, 2016 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

Some burgers turn out moist and flavorful, while others are dry and bland. If you want the former, then follow these tips for cooking great burgers.

Hamburgers are one of my absolute favorite foods. For the most part, I’ve been content eating a wide variety of burgers prepared at restaurants, barbecues, and here at home. I’ve been paying more attention recently and I’ve noticed that there is great variation in the quality of burgers I eat. Some are moist and flavorful, while others … [Read more...] about Tips for Preparing Great Burgers

Sometimes I’m surprised at what Christians post on their social media pages. Here are some types of posts that Christians should avoid sharing.

Last week I posed this question: If all that non-Christians know of Christianity is what they see from Christians on social media, then what is their understanding of our faith? We then looked at the first of four types of posts that I think Christians should avoid posting on social media. Let’s examine the remaining types of posts … [Read more...] about 4 Things Christians Should Stop Posting on Social Media (Part 2)
