Fluffy pancakes drizzled with warm maple syrup. Buttery toast. Crispy hash browns. An omelet overflowing with melted cheese and savory sausage. I feel hungry just thinking about these foods!
Breakfast has long been my favorite meal of the day. Of course, I’m not talking about the cold cereal that many folks eat for breakfast; I’m talking about hearty breakfast foods (waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, pan-fried potatoes, cheese blintzes, etc.). These foods are a fabulous way to start the day!
I enjoy these so much that I think they are also a great way to end the day. If you’re not already a fan of breakfast for dinner, then consider these five reasons to eat breakfast favorites for your evening meal.
Why eat breakfast for dinner
- Breakfast for dinner tastes good. You may be craving an omelet or pancakes now that you’ve seen the image I shared above and read the names of the foods I mentioned. This may be because you haven’t eaten in a while or it may be because you simply love the flavors of these foods. This latter reason motivates me to make breakfast for dinner!
- Breakfast foods are affordable. Where we live, we can buy a dozen eggs for about $1.00 (this means we pay roughly $0.08 per egg). This is about as cheap as food gets! Thankfully, eggs are also packed with nutrients. Things like oatmeal, potatoes, bread, and the ingredients needed to make pancakes, waffles, and crepes are also affordable. We’re always pinching pennies, so I love foods like these that allow me to make budget-friendly meals.
- Kids love breakfast foods. Kids often go through phases where they are picky eaters. My kids are no exception. Thankfully, there are certain foods that my kids have continued to love during their picky phases. These include scrambled eggs, French toast, and waffles (especially these chocolate ones). My husband (another picky eater) also happens to like these foods. There aren’t many meals that my entire family likes. When I find one that they do, I make it. Subsequently, we eat these regularly.
- Breakfast foods can be healthy. Not all breakfast foods are healthy. Bacon, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, etc. aren’t exactly health foods. However, we can consume these in moderation (or not at all, if you prefer) and focus on healthier options. For example, I love working veggies into our breakfast foods. I love making omelets that have vegetables in them (especially onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms). Likewise, I love making quiche with a cauliflower crust. Numerous veggies go well in quiche, including spinach, tomatoes, and asparagus. I also like making healthier pancakes and waffles. I use wheat flour for these and I add ground flax seed to the batters. We often top them with real fruit or with nut butters. It takes a little creativity, but I can make some pretty nutritious foods that—as I noted above—my family will actually eat.
- Breakfast foods are easy to prepare. Some breakfast foods do take a lot of time and work to prepare, but many are super easy to make. These latter foods, including omelets, pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, and breakfast casseroles, are my favorites to prepare for dinner. These are great options when I’ve had a long day or we have some place to be. I can whip them up quickly and get them on the table without fuss.
I’ve heard some individuals complain that breakfast foods aren’t filling enough to be consumed for dinner (dinner is, for many Americans, the largest meal of the day). This simply isn’t true. There are plenty of breakfast foods that are just as filling as traditional dinner foods. Here are two examples.
What do you think? Does your family eat breakfast for dinner? If so, what are your favorite breakfast foods to eat for dinner?

I love breakfast for dinner; I am not typically a breakfast person because I don’t like eating early in the morning but put those same foods in front of me at dinner and I am a happy camper. Thanks so much for sharing with us at Encouraging Hearts and Home. Pinned.

Yes, we do breakfast for dinner, and now that I think of it, the hash I’ve been planning to serve tonight would be so much better with a fried egg plopped on top! Thanks for inspiration!
