Last week I shared with you A Simple Book of Big Truths for Little Ones, a simple tool I created to help my kiddos memorize Bible verses. Many of you will find it useful when helping your children memorize Scripture. However, some of you won’t find it to be that beneficial. This is typically how things work—different kids have different learning styles, so each child needs a slightly different approach.
Thankfully, there are scores of different ways to go about memorizing Bible verses. I’m going to highlight a handful of these below. These are all kid-friendly approaches, but the reality is that they work for adults, too! Use them with your kids, but don’t be embarrassed to use them for yourself! Scripture memorization benefits all of us, so find an approach that works and go for it!
Fun and easy ways to memorize Bible verses
A Simple Book of Big Truths for Little Ones (a Bible verse book) from Of The Hearth
This is the book I referred to earlier. It is great for kids who love reading or being read to. It is very easy to use (you simply print it and place the pages in a 3-ring binder or scrapbook), so busy parents don’t have to find time for a lot of prep work.
ABC Printable Scripture Cards from I Can Teach My Child
These cards are similar to the Bible verse book I made for my kids. They can be printed for free, so they don’t take a lot of expense or work to prepare. They are portable, so they are great to take along to use while riding in the car or waiting for appointments.
Lego verse building from When One Teaches, Two Learn
My kids love Legos. Most kids do, so this memory verse activity will be a lot of fun for them. You simply print out the words to a Bible verse and tape these to Legos. Your kids then build with the Legos until they have placed the words in the correct order. With this activity, learning and playing occur simultaneously!
The Lord’s Prayer File Folder Game from Bible Story Printables
I’ve loved this idea since I first saw it! This is a file folder game where kids use picture cards to fill in the blanks in the verse. This particular game teaches the Lord’s Prayer. Though it will take a bit of work, parents can use this concept to create their own file folder games that teach kiddos other Bible verses.
Clothespin verse activity from Path Through the Narrow Gate
This simple memorization activity can be used with one child or a group of children. It is super versatile, so there are several different ways you can use it to help your kids learn new verses. It only takes a few supplies and a little bit of time to prepare, so it is affordable and easy to set up.
Bible verse hopscotch from Joy to the Heart
Kids love being physically active, so this is a great approach for them because it allows them to move their bodies. I think this is especially helpful for kids who have trouble sitting still! It doesn’t take too much prep work by parents and it can be easily adapted for use indoors on days when the weather doesn’t allow for outdoor play.
Seeds Family Worship songs
One of the most effective ways to memorize Bible verses is to set the words to music. Because of this, I have long been a fan of Seeds Family Worship, a music-based ministry that creates word for word Scripture songs for families. Most of the Seeds Family Worship songs I have heard don’t sound like children’s music—they are great for both kids and adults because they are modern and well written.

I’d love to hear what works for your family. How do you help your kids memorize Bible verses?

Thanks for these resources! You could make the clothesline one more fun by having your kids hunt for all the pieces first or run for them relay race style.

I like those ideas, Kathleen!
