There are so many fall flavors to enjoy! Though I do enjoy the wildly popular flavor of pumpkin spice, my favorite fall flavor is apple. I love apple pie, caramel apples, apple cobbler (like my Snickerdoodle Apple Cobbler), and apple cider.
When I saw a recipe for Apple Cider Cookies, I knew I needed to try them. They did not disappoint!
Ingredients
(Adapted from this recipe.)
For the cookies
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon table salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated white sugar
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup apple cider
- ½ cup applesauce
For the icing
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 3 tablespoons apple cider
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
For the cookies
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add the egg, cider, and applesauce; stir until just combined. Add the flour mixture and stir until evenly moistened.
Form the dough into 1 ½-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes (the edges should be slightly brown). Remove from the cookie sheets after allowing to cool for 5 minutes, then cool completely on a rack.
For the icing
In a small bowl, whisk together the cider, confectioners’ sugar, and cinnamon. Drizzle over the cooled cookies. Yield: 3 dozen cookies.
Notes
Yum! These cookies were great. The house smelled wonderful while they were baking, so we waited eagerly for a chance to try them. Like I said earlier, they didn’t disappoint. They were pillowy soft with an amazing flavor that is slightly sweet and slightly savory. It took a lot of effort to keep us from devouring the whole batch in a single day!
These are great for an everyday snack, but they would also be a great addition to a Thanksgiving dessert table or to a holiday cookie plate. In fact, I may make them again when I’m completing my Christmas baking. I do suggest that you not skip the icing because it really adds to the cookie.
What baking have you been doing recently? Have you tried any new cookie recipes?

How long do these stay fresh? I do usually put a slice of bread in with my cookies to keep them fresh.
Shannon says
They stay fresh for about 3 days. I’ve not tried the bread trick, so this may buy you an extra day or so. If you need them to last longer, pop some in the freezer and thaw them as you need them.
