Brown Sugar Peach Ice Cream

June 22, 2020 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

I’m quite surprised that I haven’t yet shared an ice cream recipe here on the blog. Towards the end of last summer, my parents picked up an ice cream maker at a garage sale. They gave it to us and since then we have made about a dozen varieties of ice cream!

The complementary flavors of brown sugar and peach merge in this ice cream to make a rich, satisfying treat to cool off with on a hot summer day.

Several of the varieties have been fantastic, and this is one of our favorites. It’s absolutely bursting with peach flavor. It is super sweet—it’s very high in sugar—so it isn’t something you want to eat every day. However, it is a satisfying treat to cool off with on a hot summer day.

Ingredients

(Adapted from this recipe.)

  • 4 cups peeled, sliced peaches (about 5-6 peaches)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Juice of 1 medium lemon (about 2 tablespoons juice)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups heavy cream

Instructions

Place the peaches in a blender or food processor and pulse until the peaches are broken down but not totally pureed (it is okay for a few small pieces to remain). In a large bowl, combine the peaches, sugars, lemon juice, extracts, and cream. Stir to combine and allow to sit for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the sugars have dissolved.

Once the sugars have dissolved, follow the manufacturer’s directions for churning the mixture in your ice cream maker. Once churned, place in an airtight, freezer-safe container and freeze for a few hours to harden before serving. Yield: about 1 ½ quarts ice cream.

Notes

As you can see, this recipe is not low in sugar. You can likely get away with reducing how much sugar it contains, but don’t skip the almond extract! This extract really makes the flavor of the peaches stand out.

I love that this recipe calls for practically pureeing the peaches. This means you get lots of peach flavor in every bite. I will likely use this approach (pureed fruits instead of fruits cut into small pieces) when making ice creams in the future.

The only thing I didn’t like about this ice cream was how quickly it disappeared. There were six of us (three adults and three kids) eating it, so it didn’t last long!

Do you make homemade ice cream? What are your favorite flavors?

This sounds so good! We got an ice cream attachment for our stand mixer last year and we tried making a few different kinds of ice cream. My favorite was coffee but my boys loved vanilla M&M. We’ll have to try this one during peach season. Pinned.

We’ve made vanilla with the mini M&Ms before. My girls liked it, but it was not even close to being as good as this!
