My girls’ homeschool group is having a Valentine’s Day party this week. In addition to consuming lots of treats, the kids are exchanging cards with one another. My girls wanted to come up with unique valentines that were, as my middle child phrased it, “from the heart.”

My eldest is folding paper airplanes from double-sided scrapbook paper for her valentines. I thought this was such a fun idea! My middle child gave it a lot of thought and finally described to me the little heart-shaped candy pouches that I detail below.
How to make DIY heart pouch valentines
Supplies
To make these, you first need to select some paper. We used scrapbook paper with Valentine’s Day patterns for the fronts and solid colors for the backs.
You also need adhesive googly eyes, a glue stick, a pair of scissors, an X-Acto knife or small box cutter, and candy (or other small trinkets such as stickers or erasers) to fill the pouches.
Instructions
Begin by cutting hearts out of the paper. We used a heart-shaped cookie cutter as a stencil. Ours are approximately 5.5 inches wide and 4 inches tall. You can make yours this size or larger, but you don’t want to go any smaller if you intend to place candy or a trinket inside each pouch.

Once the hearts are cut out, use an X-Acto knife or small box cutter to carefully cut a crescent-shaped smile out of the front hearts. Make the smiles big enough to accommodate the item you will place in each pouch.

Next, glue the front and back hearts together. Be careful to keep the glue close to the edges.

Once the fronts and backs are glued together, add googly eyes so you have super cute faces on your pouches! Allow to dry completely, then gently fill each pouch with a piece of individually wrapped candy or a small trinket.

Final thoughts
We love the way these turned out! My daughter is so proud of her idea and is excited to share them with her friends.
