Peaches were on sale when I got groceries this past week, so I decided to try a recipe my kids flagged in a cookbook they perused a couple of months ago.
I’m so glad we tried the recipe because these peaches were marvelous! They were amazingly sweet with slight hints of savory. We used them as a side dish, but they would also work well as a dessert.
Ingredients
(Adapted from the Griddled Fruit and Honey recipe from The Cookbook For Girls.)
- 3 large peaches
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
Cut the peaches in half and remove the pits. Cut each half into quarters. Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the peaches. Gently toss to coat.
Preheat a griddle pan over medium-high heat. Add the butter. Carefully tilt the pan so the melted butter spreads around. Add the peaches, flesh side down. Cook for about 3 minutes or until the sugar begins to caramelize. Turn the peaches over and repeat. Serve warm. Yield: 4 servings.
Notes
When I was cooking these, my girls kept popping into the kitchen to see what was going on because the scent of the cooking peaches was amazing! Their flavor was wonderful, too. They were very sweet, and their sweetness was perfectly complemented by the savory flavors of butter and cinnamon. We only had a couple of slices leftover. I kept these and used them in a bowl of oatmeal the following morning. Yum!
For this recipe, it is best to use peaches that are a little firm. You can also use this recipe with other varieties of fruit! Apricots, nectarines, mangoes, and pineapple would all work well.
What new recipes have you tried lately? I’d love to hear about them!

Thanks, Michele!
I need to try stir frying veggies again. It has been a little while since I last did. Perhaps the change will help my kids be interested in trying a new veggie or one that they don’t traditionally like.
