Kid-Friendly Soft Taco Fold

If you have young kids in your house, then chances are that mealtimes tend to be messy. Of course, some meals are messier than others. One of these meals is tacos. No, tacos aren’t messy in the same way that spaghetti in marinara sauce is messy, but the taco fillings tend to get all over the place. As soon as a child picks up a taco and puts one end in his or her mouth, it fillings pour out the opposite end!

Several months ago I came across a recipe for Kid-Friendly Tacos on allrecipes.com. I didn’t think there was anything outstanding about the recipe itself, but I did love the idea about how to fold the tortillas. Behold the kid-friendly way to fold soft tacos.

Do taco fillings spill all over as soon as your kid places one end of a taco in her mouth? Prevent this with the kid-friendly soft taco fold.

Initially, I wasn’t sure if this fold would be a significant improvement. However, this is how I’ve been folding my kids’ soft tacos for the last few months, and it works! It really does keep the fillings wrapped in the tortilla. Here’s my 21-month-old demonstrating its effectiveness.

Hello, my daughter is now 19 months and I would love to make these for her. Unfortunately She will try to shove it all in her mouth at once. How would I be able to prevent her from doing that with tacos.

      Hi Monica,
This must be a common behavior with little ones because my older two both went through phases where they did this. Now my youngest, who is 2.5 years old, does it with muffins and breads!
I’m not certain what will work for your daughter, but perhaps you can give her the taco and help her take a bite, then set the taco out of reach until she chews and swallows the bite? Then you can hand it back to her and let her take another bite? This would take a lot of work on your end, but would keep her from shoving the whole thing in her mouth.
Another thing you could do is make her a quesadilla with all of the ingredients instead of a taco. Then you could cut cut the quesadilla into bite-sized pieces so she can only put a little in her mouth at a time.
      Hope that helps!
