Make a Wedding Vow Word Cloud to Display Your Wedding Vows

Not long after my husband and I got married, I decided that I wanted to display our wedding vows somewhere in our home. When I came across the concept of word clouds some time later, I knew immediately that this was the way I wanted to display our vows.

A wedding vow word cloud is a unique, eye-catching way to display your wedding vows. Here’s how to create one to display in your home.

A word cloud is an image composed of the words used in a particular text, in which the size of each word indicates its frequency or importance. The text used in a wedding vow word cloud is, of course, wedding vows! I am not skilled enough to make a word cloud on my own, so I took advantage of one of the free word cloud generators that are available. I cannot remember which one I used (I made the word cloud several years ago), but you could use any of these to make one:

  • Wordle
  • WordItOut
  • TagCrowd
  • Tagxedo

All of these generators allow you to enter your text and then customize the appearance of your cloud by modifying the font, layout, and color scheme. You can then download and save the word cloud as an image so you can print it, upload it on social media, use it on a website, etc.

Here is the text from our wedding ceremony that I used to make our word cloud:

Shannon, will you have this man to be your husband; to live together in the covenant of marriage? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?

Preston, will you have this woman to be your wife; to live together in the covenant of marriage? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?

I, Preston, take you, Shannon, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death.

I, Shannon, take you, Preston, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death.

Before entering this into the generator, I removed the punctuation and deleted each use of the word “and” (I didn’t want this word appearing several times in the cloud). I selected font colors that were similar to our wedding colors and selected a heart shape for the cloud. This is the initial cloud I created with the generator.

After manipulating the shape and colors a bit more, I finally settled on this cloud.

I love how the three largest words are “all for you.” This seems pretty appropriate, doesn’t it?

I downloaded the cloud to my computer and converted the file from a PNG to JPG. This last step was necessary because I uploaded the file to a photo printing service and had it printed on a canvas (the service wouldn’t accept PNG files).

As I noted earlier, I made this word cloud years ago. However, my husband and I just recently hung it on the wall above our bed along with a canvas print of one of our wedding photos and two glass lanterns that were accessories in the wedding. I was inspired to get these on my wall after a conversation with Elizabeth of Guilty Chocoholic Mama. I love having these there because they remind us of our vows and help create a more romantic environment in our bedroom!

Next week I’m going to examine some reasons why it’s a good idea to display your wedding vows and I’ll share some creative ways that other couples have done this.

Have you ever made a word cloud? What text did you put into it and why?

Oh my goodness…I LOVE this, Shannon! I’m so sorry I’m just now seeing this…I’ve been in a fog lately. But this is so lovely! I’m honored to have been able to provide a little inadvertent inspiration for this lovely project and can only imagine the joy you must feel every time you walk into your bedroom and see these beautiful, powerful words hanging there. Blessings to you and your husband as you continue to live out these vows!

I’m so grateful for the inspiration, Elizabeth. I do love seeing it each day and having the reminder.
