Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream

It’s already hot enough around here that cold treats like frozen fruit bars and ice cream really feel like perfect snacks!

Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream is the perfect balance of orange and vanilla. This creamy ice cream will be an instant hit with the whole family!

We decided to try a new ice cream flavor this week. After considering numerous recipes, we settled on Orange Creamsicle. It was absolutely delicious!

Ingredients

(Adapted from this recipe.)

  • 4 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1/2 of a 12 oz. container frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract

Instructions

Beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth and fluffy. Gently stir in the remaining ingredients. Pour into the ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once the ice cream is done churning, place in a covered container and freeze until ready to serve. Yield: 8 servings.

Notes

This was such a tasty ice cream! The flavor was perfect for a spring afternoon. It tasted just like a traditional orange creamsicle frozen bar. Using frozen orange juice concentrate allows you to add a lot of orange flavor without watering down the ice cream. Additionally, the cream cheese gives the ice cream a smooth, creamy texture and adds a little tang to the flavor. As you might imagine, we finished this off quickly!

I used a stand mixer to beat together the cream cheese and sugar. I then stirred in the remaining ingredients by hand. You can use this approach or use a stand mixer for it all or do it all by hand (whatever you prefer). You just want to make sure you get the cream cheese creamed well so there aren’t chunks of it in the ice cream. If you want to add additional depth to the flavor you could toss in a handful of mini chocolate chips.

Have you tried any new flavors of ice cream lately? I’d love to hear about them!

That sounds delicious! My boys and I just love creamsicles and often try to mimic that taste in other desserts. Pinned.
