As always seems to be the case, fall sped by so quickly that it is hard to believe we accomplished as much as we did during the last few months. Now we’re about to welcome winter.
My 5-year-old keeps asking each family member to identify his or her favorite season. Though I have told her that fall is my favorite, I’ve also reminded her that each season is special in its own way. Here are some of the special things about winter.
The best things about winter
- Celebrating Christmas
- Having snowball fights
- Drinking hot chocolate
- Listening to Christmas songs
- Enjoying soups and stews
- Building snowmen
- Celebrating the New Year
- Wearing cozy sweaters
- Sitting in front of a blazing fire in the fireplace
- Making snow angels
- Donning warm scarves and mittens
- Cuddling with loved ones
- Eating cookies fresh from the oven
- Going sledding
- Wearing fuzzy socks
- Having snow days
- Celebrating Valentine’s Day
- Covering up with comfy blankets
- Going ice skating
- Eating comforting casseroles
- Enjoying the scents of pine, ginger, cinnamon, and cranberry
- Hearing the crunch of snow underfoot
- Seeing icicles and trees covered in snow
We live in Texas, so a few of these items, such as having snowball fights and making snow angels, happen very rarely. My kids treasure these rare occasions and enjoy these snow activities for families in warm climates during winters when we don’t get snow.
Do you enjoy winter? If so, what are your favorite things about it? What unique things do you do to celebrate the season?
This is my final post before Christmas, so I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas!

Yes, let’s be positive about this season!
One night this week, it was snowing and I was outside in the dark as snowflakes drifted down. The air was crisp and dry and nearly crackled with the cold, and I thought to myself, “I’m so glad I didn’t miss this!”

I imagine it can be difficult to enjoy winter sometimes when you live in a cold location like you do. There are definitely still things to enjoy, though. I’m glad you had this moment with the snowflakes!
