Some individuals really have a knack for home decorating, but I’m not one of them. I don’t have a lot of time, money, or talent to put into decorating, so I focus a lot more on function than form. However, I’m keenly aware that the appearance of my home impacts the atmosphere in my home. I want the atmosphere in my home to be warm and peaceful so I’m able to meet the needs of my family and extend hospitality to others.
Like many Americans, I tend to think about gratitude in the weeks preceding Thanksgiving. I want to take advantage of this heightened focus to foster gratitude in my home. Thankfully, there are a lot of home décor items—some fall-themed ones and some that are suitable for use year round—that promote gratitude. I already have a gratitude-inspiring wreath that I made a few years ago (see an image of it below), so this is a good starting point. However, I’m hoping to integrate some additional items in the coming years.
Here are a number of possibilities. Some are DIY options and others are available for purchase, but all of these items provide helpful reminders to give thanks.
Gratitude-inspiring home décor
The front door
I love having a wreath on my front door. It adds a pop of color and this particular wreath reminds me of the blessings in my life.
I’m also fond of this one made by Bre of Average But Inspired. It has a pocket where you can place slips of paper or craft sticks on which you’ve noted things for which you are grateful.
If you don’t have time to make a wreath like this yourself, there are always some available for sale at local craft fairs and in stores. For example, here’s a great one from Wreaths by Kari.
The kitchen
I spend so much time in the kitchen! I would really benefit from having some items there that remind me to be grateful.
- Harvest-themed flour sack kitchen towels
- Give thanks tea towel with 1 Thessalonians 5:18
- Utensil or silverware caddy with Psalm 107:8
- Give thanks pie plate with Psalm 105:1
Aren’t these beautiful? I especially love the utensil caddy.
The dining room
There are many wonderful items that we can use at the dining table to benefit the whole family.
- Give thanks tablecloth
- Give thanks serving dish and napkins
- Grateful serving platter
- Thankful mug
- Give thanks mug and coaster
- Turkey on the Table® book and activity
This last item is a really neat book that families can read together and an activity that they can complete together. Its creator makes a donation to Feeding America each time one is purchased.
The living room and bedrooms
We can even be reminded to give thanks as we relax in our living rooms and bedrooms.
- Thankful throw pillow
- In everything give thanks wall art
- Choose gratitude tabletop sign
- Give thanks banner
- Give thanks banner with gratitude leaves by Emily of Creative Little Explorers
This last banner is a DIY option that allows you to take note of the things for which you are thankful. I love that you write these on the leaves and they become part of the banner.
Final thoughts
Of course, no home décor item can replace things like reading about gratitude in the Bible (Psalm 136:1, Colossians 3:17, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, etc.), engaging in gratitude activities, and modeling gratitude for our kids. However, I think having some reminders around the house is helpful. It’s a bonus that these items are so lovely.
Do you have any decorative items that remind you to give thanks? If so, what are they?

I’m not very talented at decorating my home, but I do really appreciate how the decorations can contribute to the “feel” of the season!
