Once Amaris, my infant daughter, stopped sleeping for most of the day, I found myself staring into her beautiful eyes and wondering what exactly I should do with her. I would hold her, talk to her, and sing to her, but given that children learn through play, I wondered if I should be doing more.
I looked into developmentally appropriate play and created the following printable as a guide.

Now we have plenty of ideas! What other activities have you enjoyed sharing with your babies?

What a nice overall list. I would say that i have heard that musical development has its beginning at this time. Children learn to feel the count of music by feeling the beat, for example being bounced or patted to the rhythm of the music. Also a hint about stacking blocks: they certainly needn’t be expensive. I used the tubs from yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese etc. They are light weight, stack well, can be stored even better (nested) and best of all are free. I didn’t see it here but there also is the tried and true spoons on pots and pans for the mom who can handle it for the older kids.
