Grandparents play an invaluable role in the lives of their grandkids. However, parents and grandchildren rarely take the time to honor and encourage the grandparents in their lives. Though we should do this throughout the year, we have a specific reminder to do so every September on Grandparents Day (this holiday is held annually on the first Sunday after Labor Day).
One powerful way to encourage grandparents is to share with them words from Scripture. The Bible has a number of encouraging things to say to grandmothers and grandfathers. I’ve listed 12 of these below. I’ve also placed these in a convenient printable. You can print the verses on regular paper and cut them out or you can print them onto sheets of index cards (Avery 5388) and tear these cards at the perforations so each encouragement is on a 3 x 5 inch card. These cards are in a Microsoft Word template, so you can make changes to them! Feel free to add additional verses or personal messages.

- “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread.” Psalm 37:25
- “Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.” Proverbs 16:31
There are a number of ways that you can use these cards. Here are three ideas:
- Tuck a couple in each Grandparents Day card you send.
- Include a card in each gift basket or bouquet of flowers you give.
- Use them as place cards around the brunch, lunch, or dinner table and have each individual read his or her verse aloud to the grandparents at the table.
What verses would you add? How do you encourage the grandparents in your life?
