March 6, 2021 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

A visual schedule is a visual depiction of a child’s routine. Here are free printable images to use in creating one for your child!

While I’m not a fan of rigid schedules, I do find it easier to complete the tasks I need to complete each day when I have a routine in place. I believe that having a routine also benefits my children. I appreciate routines so much that five years ago I even wrote a post on how routines can make or break your day! It is a little difficult to … [Read more...] about Printable Images for a Visual Schedule for Kids

March 2021 Dinner Menu

February 27, 2021 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

What’s for dinner in my house during March 2021? Menu items include beef fajitas, tortellini tomato soup, and chicken lettuce wraps.

Last month’s menu was helpful to us for about half the month. Then we lost power and running water in the 2021 Texas Freeze. Once these services got back online, it took a week or so for grocery stores to get a variety of foods back in stock. I’m hoping we’re able to use this menu for the entire month! At the beginning of each month I … [Read more...] about March 2021 Dinner Menu

We lost power and water this week during the 2021 Texas Freeze. We were okay because we were prepared. Are you prepared for when it’s your turn?

It quickly became apparent to me last week that I was not going to get a post of any type published. However, I have one for you today! As many of you know, I live in the Houston metro area. Last week we—and pretty much all of Texas—experienced a brutal winter storm. I grew up in Colorado, so I know that those of you in the north have … [Read more...] about Be Prepared: Thoughts On and Lessons From the 2021 Texas Freeze

11 Reasons to Go On a Walk Today

February 13, 2021 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

Though it is a very simple activity, walking provides numerous physical and mental health benefits.

Eight years ago, shortly after I began blogging, I wrote a post about the health benefits of walking. At the time, I was walking frequently for exercise and to get to know the neighborhood, which was new to my husband and me. My circumstances are quite different now (I’m in a different state and have three young children), but on most days you … [Read more...] about 11 Reasons to Go On a Walk Today

This easy-to-prepare ice cream is bursting with the delicious flavors of chocolate cake and sweet cherries.

Because we are approaching Valentine’s Day, I wanted to make my kids some festive ice cream. There are a number of flavors that many of us traditionally associate with Valentine’s Day, including the flavor of Black Forest Cake (chocolate cake with a rich cherry filling). I integrated the flavor of this delicious dessert into an … [Read more...] about Black Forest Cake Ice Cream

February 2021 Dinner Menu

February 4, 2021 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

What’s for dinner in my house during February 2021? Menu items include chicken and wild rice casserole, steak Alfredo, and chicken parmesan.

I can’t believe we are already one month into 2021. The year is zooming by already! Among other things, this means it is time for a new menu. At the beginning of each month I plan out our dinners for the coming weeks (you can see past menus here). I do this monthly instead of weekly because it saves me time (I don’t have to find time to … [Read more...] about February 2021 Dinner Menu

Getting Along When You and Your Spouse Have Different Political Views

January 28, 2021 By Shannon This post may contain affiliate links and this site uses cookies. Click here for details.

Can politically divided spouses have close, loving, and respectful relationships? Generally speaking, I think so. Here’s how this works in my house.

I don’t recall having a lot of conversations about politics back when my husband and I were dating. I’m sure we had some, but we definitely discussed things like faith, family, and our hopes for the future more frequently and in greater depth. We’ve certainly had conversations about political issues from time to time since we got … [Read more...] about Getting Along When You and Your Spouse Have Different Political Views

Chicken Cordon Bleu Soup

Get the classic flavor of Chicken Cordon Bleu in an easy-to-prepare soup! It contains hidden cauliflower to boost your family’s veggie consumption.

We had some ham left over after Christmas. I froze it in portions of various sizes and have been finding new recipes with which to use it. One recipe that caught my eye was for this Chicken Cordon Bleu Soup. This soup contains cauliflower, so I knew I was taking a chance that my veggie-averse family might not like it. Guess what? They … [Read more...] about Chicken Cordon Bleu Soup
